In order to increase the surface strength of paper and paperboard and prevent the diffusion and permeation of water quality liquids, it is necessary to apply glue to paper and paperboard. The additives of Sizing Machine are called paper sizing agents, and there are many kinds of sizing agents.

What is Surface Sizing?

Surface sizing is the application of a thin layer of adhesive material on the surface of a sheet of paper. The purpose is to make the surface of the paper obtain other special properties such as hydrophobic properties. There are two basic methods for obtaining hydrophobic properties, i. e. internal sizing and surface sizing.

Function of Surface Sizing

Surface sizing has multiple effects, not only in order to obtain good sizing properties, but also to increase the hydrophobicity of the page. In most cases, in order to increase the surface strength of paper, improve wear resistance and durability of paper. More importantly,  it can improve the sheet dropping, off powder, thereby, the writing and printing performance of the paper sheet can be solved. In addition, surface strength can be improved by surface sizing, such as bursting strength, bending strength, tensile strength, anti delamination strength, ring crush strength and stiffness.

Application of  Surface Sizing

Surface sizing is used for bank-note paper, bond paper, drawing paper, advanced writing paper, offset printing paper and so on.
